The Platov International Airport has for the first time received a wide-bodied Boeing 777-300ER (ER - Extended Range) aircraft - this was an airplane of the Rossiya air carrier, which made a flight from St. Petersburg with Brazilian and Swiss fans on board.
The liner is designed to carry 21 business class and 436 economy class passengers. Boeing 777-300ER – is the largest civilian airplane serviced by the Platov Airport to date. According to the tradition established in aviation, the Rossiya’s airplane was welcomed by a water arc.
We would like to add that Boeing 777 was the design aircraft type when engineering the Platov Airport. Further to construction of a new reinforced concrete runway with the size of 3,600*45 m, reinforced apron coating and wider taxiways enabling safe movement of airplanes with the greater wing span and width of main undercarriage legs, the airport has been equipped with required special vehicles and the staff has underwent training in receiving and clearing such aircraft.
The Platov International Airport is the largest infrastructural project of the Rostov Region. The airport terminal was built in the Aksaisky District, 4 km northward of the Grushevskaya Village. The new airport of such level built from scratch for the first time in the post-Soviet history of the country replaced the existing one, located too close to the urban development. The construction project of the new airport facility in Rostov-on-Don has been implemented within the framework of the Federal Target Program of Development of Russian Transport System (2010-2020) and the Program for preparation and holding of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in the Russian Federation.
